Megan realizes that she has left her coat in the car. It’s too far, and the rain is coming down too hard, for her to run back and fetch it, so she shelters in the doorway of what turns out to be a soft furnishing shop, hoping that the squall will pass quickly. Across the street she sees a woman take off her hat and shake out her hair, then raise her face to the heavens. Raindrops fall onto her nose and eyelids and drip from her chin. The woman shows no sign of moving from this position. Megan shivers and searches in her handbag for her face mask. She puts it on, opens the door and enters the store
