Her kidnapper claims to be a Guardian: a race of warriors, created by the gods, who have taken over as protectors of the supernatural world. If that wasn’t strange enough, another Guardian walks in during the interrogation and claims she is his mate.
The Guardians tell Mae what she already knows: she’s a danger to those around her. Normally, anyone else in her situation would be terminated. But Mae has been offered an olive branch: if she helps them break the curse that hangs over the Guardian race, they will help her find a way to control her power so she can have a normal life.
